Blast off!

It’s been so long since I created this blog, I can’t even remember when I actually created it! Well, I’m finally starting it off tonight. I’ll turn 30 years old on Friday March 4, so I guess I can say I accomplished one more thing before I turned the big three o.

Like the heading says, I started this blog to highlight my career progression in the computer security field. I was a signal analyst for nine years in the Air Force, spending 12 hour days and nights breaking down signals and analyzing bits, a.k.a., ones and zeros. I lived in Japan for six years and missed the entire last half of the 1990’s in the US. I spent the millennium over there as well, but I don’t think I missed much.

Now I work for large company as a computer security “dude”. From this point forward, all computer security professionals (men and women) will be referred to as “dudes” in this blog. Working in the COMPUSEC field is like working on a dude ranch. It’s hard and sometimes smelly work. You have to round up alerts like cattle. You have to perform maintenance on your sensors like horses to keep them in top performing condition. It’s an endless process and a very complex one.
